about bronte

I am the owner and designer behind Design Shack. I was born and bred in Esperance on the south east coast of Western Australia. I have a strong love for the ocean and the inspiration and stylistic energy that comes with it. Hence why my social media is covered in photographs of the coastline.

For high school, I went to Perth College, which had an amazing art department and from there my love for graphic design began. I then went on to complete a four year apprenticeship in Pre-Press Graphic Arts, for Community Newspaper Group (CNG), a company that produces over 17 publications weekly to all areas in Perth, Western Australia.

In 2014, I won the LIA – Heidelberg Graduate of the Year Award for Western Australia and in 2015, was nominated for the GAMAA – LIA National Graduate Scholarship Prize.

Whilst I was working for Community Newspaper, I started designing invitations for friends and family as a small, on the side business. Invitations eventually turned into logos & business cards and then finally I got into designing and developing websites. The amount of interest I got for potential clients was a tad overwelming, so I decided to move on from the newspaper industry and started Design Shack.

With my web design & development experience, I took on some mentoring by the in-house developer at Community Newspaper Group, but mainly a lot of what I learnt was self-taught, getting the odd help from various people and mainly researching online! But for me this wasn’t enough to build the confidence I needed to market myself as a web developer. So I went to Mexico. Sounds crazy?! Yes, well I did a 10-day coding bootcamp with an Australian founded business called the Institute of Code in Sayulita, Mexico, and believe me, it was the boost I needed.

The path I took to get where I am now was non-expected but a crazy & amazing one! I am not like most designers who have been to University to get that special degree (although there is nothing wrong with that!), I have worked hard, I have had over 5 years of practical experience working in the industry, I am unique and authentic and always eager to learn more. I can promise you that will I go that extra mile to make my clients happy, because I know what running a business is like, and to have that branding quality together with a fully responsive website makes such a huge difference.
